Deion Sanders criticizes Travis Hunter for deactivating social media after online comments about fiancée

Colorado Buffaloes head football coach Deion Sanders addressed former player Travis Hunter's decision to deactivate his social media accounts in response to comments about Hunter's fiancee, Leanna Rennie.

Hunter and Renee's Instagram accounts were suspended on December 23, just days after Hunter won the Heisman Trophy. During the ceremony, social media discussions about the event included some harsh criticism of Hunter and Renee as a couple. Hunter's account has since been reactivated.

Sanders spoke about his reaction to Hunter's situation in an interview on “The Tamron Hall Show.”

“It hurt that he did that,” Sanders said of Hunter's suspension. “What the enemy wants from you is to stand still.”

Sanders criticized Hunter for ignoring business decisions. According to On3.com, Hunter, a former college student and future professional athlete with an NIL valuation of $5.2 million, is likely to have activity on his social media accounts that is directly tied to endorsements.

“You have support, you have people who are willing to sponsor you to talk about their product,” Sanders said. “You need to activate now.”

Mr Sanders also criticized Mr Hunter's withdrawal, suggesting his response would leave him vulnerable to “attacks”.

“When someone stands still, it's your chance to attack. We hate that stillness. Keep moving. Don't let the enemy get you while you're still and having a self-pity party.” Sanders said. He added that he had told Hunter about the situation.
