Viral Fundraiser for Delivery Worker Following Prank

A prank that seemed thoughtless and cruel has led to a remarkable response this week, helping a struggling father of four receive an astonishing amount of over half a million dollars and still rising.

The incident, caught on video by the alleged prankster, features a Red Baron pizza delivery worker known only as “Walter Z” from Michigan. The prankster pretends to rob Walter by connecting to his phone remotely to simulate tapping his Apple Pay.

In the footage, the prankster first approaches Walter while he is busy stocking a freezer in a Walmart. When Walter checks his phone for the time, the prankster declares, “Thank you, bro. I just took ten dollars.”

Walter seems incredulous and dismisses the situation, saying, “I’m not in the mood for such crap right now.” He then walks away, indicating he will report the prankster to store management.

The two meet again near the cash register. This time, the prankster claims he took $20, escalating the confrontation as Walter pushes back. “I don’t know what’s going on,” he responds. “You’re just a little punk.”

When the prankster insists it’s just a joke, Walter retorts, “It’s not a joke to me. My life is hard enough as it is…I’ve got kids at home that went to bed without me right now. And I was supposed to be home an hour ago.” His frustration builds until he shouts, “And so this is not a joke to me.”

He expresses his anger, saying, “You’re probably making money off this, and I can’t even pay my goddamn mortgage.”

The video was initially shared on an Instagram account called @thea.ctiveworld, which has since been deleted.

In response to the incident, a man named Luke Oakenshield from Arizona started a GoFundMe campaign aimed at assisting Walter. He mentioned he didn’t know Walter personally but wanted to help provide some financial breathing room during this difficult time.

The fundraiser gained traction quickly, with around 15,000 donations that have now surpassed $578,000.

Walter Z, whose full name has been made known, expressed gratitude in a response to the donations, stating how much it meant to him and his family. He remarked on the kindness shown and emphasized his intention to keep matters private to protect his family.

Despite the positive turn in events, some journalists are still looking into the prank. A spokesman for the company that owns Red Baron acknowledged the viral video and disclosed that they had reached out to Walter to ensure his well-being. He confirmed Walter remains a valued team member and is doing well.

Media attempts to gather more information haven’t yielded much. Walter’s family has opted to decline interviews for now, and there have been no reports on whether police looked into the incident, which appeared to be a setup for a reaction.

The public response has mostly centered on criticism of the prank, with many claiming it exploits individuals for social media clicks. Some labeled it a societal issue, referring to it as a form of “cancer.”

Conservative commentator Benny Johnson characterized the event as a “happy ending” but noted Walter’s reaction as reflective of a broader societal frustration. He pointed out that financial burdens like gas, food, and mortgages are weighing heavily on many while people engage in such pranks. He suggested that this kind of stress is troubling and building up in society within a pressure cooker that might lead to more significant issues.
