Congressman Shri Thanedar Proposes Bill to Abolish ICE
Congressman Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) has revealed plans to introduce legislation aimed at abolishing the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), claiming that the agency is “beyond reform.”
During a press conference on Wednesday, Thanedar criticized ICE, calling it “totally out of control.” He specifically pointed fingers at Kristi Noem, the Secretary of Homeland Security, suggesting that under her leadership, ICE is operating without accountability.
Additionally, Thanedar expressed pride in co-sponsoring a resolution to impeach Noem, alleging she has misused “taxpayer funds,” misled the “Committee on Homeland Security,” and has overseen an ICE that is “committing crimes across America.”
“We need to reform ICE, yes, but truthfully, at this point, it’s beyond that. It’s completely out of control,” he stated. “So, this week, we’re moving to introduce a bill to abolish it. It’s time to get rid of ICE.”
In a press release dated January 9th, Thanedar confirmed he would be introducing the ICE Repeal Act, which aims to “dismantle U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and erase its current enforcement capabilities.”
This announcement comes shortly after the incident involving ICE agents and the death of Renee Good, a woman accused of using her vehicle aggressively.
Thanedar remarked, “The tragic incident involving Renee Nicole Good, who was shot by an ICE officer in Minneapolis, demonstrates that ICE is unreformable and should be abolished. Repealing the ICE Act is essential for justice and a more compassionate immigration policy.”
According to reports from Breitbart News, during the shooting incident, “a group began trying to disrupt ICE activities” in Minneapolis.
NBC News indicated that the group attempted to halt ICE’s “targeted operation,” and during this, the woman allegedly used her car as a weapon against agents.
At that time, the Department of Homeland Security noted via a post that the woman “used her car as a weapon” and attempted to strike an ICE officer. They characterized the event as “an act of domestic terrorism.”
Noem later added that while ICE officers were engaged in an enforcement mission, the woman’s vehicle had gotten stuck in the snow, and when they tried to help, she became aggressive, attempting to ram them with her car. “Our officers responded quickly and employed defensive measures to protect themselves and those nearby,” she explained.
