Dems, Hispanics Supporting Mass Deportation Because Polls Cast People in U.S. Illegally as in the U.S. Illegally

On Tuesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “The ReidOut,” host Joy Reid said support for mass deportations among Democrats and Hispanics is because polls classify “these people” as illegally in the country.

Reid said: “[T]A phenomenon that’s happening in the ground-level debate on immigration is the polls. I don’t know how reliable they are, how they’re phrased, but I think it depends on the situation, but it seems like Democrats, or at least a third of Democrats, and even Latinos in some cases, are in favor of mass deportations. I think it’s a question of people’s fear of competition for jobs and of a chaotic process that they shouldn’t have to go through. And they feel like they went through an orderly process. What do you think is behind that?

“First of all, I think the polls are all over the place,” Jayapal said. Reid agreed.

Jayapal continued, “There was a poll just recently, and it really depends on how you phrase it. If you ask do you want chaos at the border or do you want people coming in across the border, it’s pretty clear.”

Reid then cut in and responded: “I’m not going to interrupt you on your opinion, but I’ll read this to you: This is a poll in support of mass deportations. questionThe question was, “Do you support or oppose the U.S. government’s new national plan to deport all illegal immigrants currently in the U.S. illegally?” So it’s like these are the people being cast, but these are people who work in meat processing plants.”
