Detentions Occur During Leftist Protests Against ICE in Los Angeles

On Friday, several individuals were arrested during an anti-immigration protests in downtown Los Angeles as the Trump administration intensifies its actions against illegal immigration. This follows reports of protesters occupying the Sixth Avenue bridge earlier in the week.

According to sources, clashes occurred between protesters and police, as well as U.S. military personnel, after National Guard troops and U.S. Marines were deployed to the area amidst attempts to block immigrant enforcement actions in June.

Police announced shortly after midnight on Saturday that multiple arrests were made at various demonstrations in downtown LA. Most events were described as peaceful initially, but tensions escalated later in the evening due to “outside agitators.”

Before this announcement, authorities mentioned that protesters were confronting federal protective officers and National Guard members, and they noted that no live ammunition was used during these encounters.

In a video, some protesters were seen gesturing at law enforcement. The initial gathering took place outside City Hall and extended over a mile downtown, ultimately dispersing after police orders.

Homeland Security officials classified the protests as an illegal assembly. Reports indicated that Marines and federal agents were equipped for riot control while instructing protesters to leave the area. Footage captured a protester shouting from behind a moving truck, expressing frustration over ongoing deportations, while others waved both American and Mexican flags, with some signs stating slogans like “keep immigrants and deport racists” and “pro-America, anti-Trump.”

Additionally, the celebrations for July 4th in Southern California faced either cancellation or postponement due to ICE’s ongoing enforcement of immigration laws. Reports from June indicated that most individuals arrested by ICE during Trump’s first 100 days were confirmed criminal offenders.
