Border Czar Responds to Hecklers at Turning Point USA Conference
Tom Homan, the border czar, confronted hecklers during a session at the Turning Point USA conference held at the University of Texas in El Paso on Thursday.
He addressed roughly 500 attendees, sharing his views and responding to questions.
“I don’t want anyone to get hurt. I don’t want anyone to die—this includes police officers and immigrants,” he remarked, emphasizing the importance of safety.
Homan compared the state of border security during the Trump administration to that of the previous administration, labeling the difference as “night and day.”
“There were times when 12,000 individuals crossed the border illegally each day,” Homan noted, referencing the current situation under the Biden administration. He pointed out that recently just 106 people crossed a 2,000-mile stretch of the border, and none were allowed entry into the United States.
The audience responded enthusiastically with applause.
He disputed media claims that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) unfairly targets non-criminals, stating that 64% of recent immigration arrests involved criminals.
Homan argued that critics have unfairly labeled him the mastermind behind “family separation,” stating, “It wasn’t implemented to punish anyone; it was about saving lives, preventing sexual assault, and managing the borders.”
Amid the presentation, a heckler shouted, “You’re a racist! It destroys the Constitution!” The audience countered with chants of “USA!” drowning out the heckler’s comments.
Despite the interruption, Homan continued, detailing how the Biden administration has lost track of over 300,000 unaccompanied migrant children, while the Trump administration managed to locate 40,000 of them.
“Every night, I pray for the safety of all Border Patrol and ICE agents, as well as those we are searching for,” Homan expressed. “I don’t want anyone to die—this includes cops and immigrants. Call it whatever you will.”
In response to another heckler who called him a “traitor,” Homan challenged the individual, saying, “Stand up, put on your Kevlar vest, strap on your gun, and go defend this border!”
