Development in Nancy Guthrie case loses momentum after doorbell video is made public, suspect released

A recent development in the Nancy Guthrie case hit a snag when the suspect, who had been apprehended earlier, was released late Tuesday night.

This potential lead emerged on the same day police shared images and video of a masked intruder captured by a Google Nest doorbell camera around the time Guthrie vanished from her Tucson, Arizona home. The footage depicts a stocky individual clad in a ski mask and gloves, standing at the door before tampering with the doorbell and ending the recording.

Shortly after this evidence was released, authorities from the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and the FBI carried out a raid at a residence in Rio Rico, Arizona, roughly an hour south of Tucson, leading to the man’s detainment. Despite this, he was let go after questioning.

In a rather peculiar statement, he remarked, “I hope the suspect is arrested, because I am not. They better do their job and find the suspect who started the case to clear my name, because I’m done.” He noted that law enforcement had forcibly entered his home and expressed confusion over why he drew their interest.

“If I knew the answer, I would have told you, but I don’t,” he admitted. Working as a delivery driver, he claimed to be unfamiliar with Savannah or Nancy Guthrie, stating, “I don’t follow the news.”

Savannah Guthrie is known as a host on NBC’s Today, while her mother, Nancy, was reported missing on February 1st after failing to arrive for a virtual church service with friends.

Law enforcement officials have indicated they discovered blood droplets outside the mother’s front door.

The FBI was able to retrieve the footage despite Nancy Guthrie not having a cloud service subscription for automatic savings of recordings.

“In the past eight days, the FBI and Pima County Sheriff’s Office have been collaborating closely with private sector partners to recover images and video footage from Nancy Guthrie’s home that may have been lost or otherwise inaccessible due to various factors, including the removal of recording devices,” the authorities mentioned in a statement on February 10.

On social media, Savannah Guthrie has encouraged people to continue their prayers. “We believe that somehow she feels this prayer and that God is lifting her up in this moment,” she posted on Instagram.
