DHS Addresses Rise in Attacks on ICE Officials

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has criticized some Democratic politicians and mainstream media for inciting hatred and violence, pointing to a staggering 830% rise in assaults on U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials. According to the DHS, these incidents have surged since the beginning of 2025.

On Tuesday, officials reported that, between January 21 and July 14 of 2025, assaults against ICE personnel increased by 830% compared to the same timeframe in the previous year. This period notably follows President Donald Trump’s return to office.

“Our brave ICE law enforcement officers are facing an unprecedented increase in assaults against them,” remarked DHS Secretary Christie Noem. He emphasized the need for politicians of all affiliations to denounce this violence.

The DHS has specifically called out Congressional Democrats for fueling anti-ICE rhetoric, citing comments suggesting that the department could “dox” and physically attack individuals.

DHS spokesperson Salud Carbajal mentioned an incident involving shared business cards of ICE staff with those known for violent actions, effectively placing these employees in harm’s way and inciting mobs to target them. This led to one official being injured by a rock and requiring hospital treatment.

In another troubling case, Rep. Lamonica McIver from New Jersey allegedly stormed a Delaney Hall detention facility in May and assaulted an ICE officer, resulting in federal charges.

Tricia McLaughlin, the DHS Deputy Secretary, highlighted the bravery of ICE agents, who risk their lives to safeguard communities. She pointed out that, despite wild political rhetoric, ICE has successfully removed dangerous individuals, including terrorists and murderers.

The agency also referenced threats faced by ICE officers in Portland, Oregon, where they were targeted by anti-facilitation groups who shared their photos and personal details online, putting their families at risk.

The DHS remarked that attacks against ICE officials have increased notably during law enforcement operations, fueling further concern.

Additionally, the department criticized the media for misrepresenting events surrounding ICE enforcement actions. For instance, during efforts that rescued children from exploitation, some reports inaccurately stated that a man died due to law enforcement pursuits. DHS clarified that the individual fell while attempting to escape and was not being chased.

Skepticism towards certain media narratives was also expressed, especially regarding claims that ICE targets children during family separations. DHS claimed that, when faced with such cases, ICE offers options to parents about the care of their children.
