DHS Urges Minnesota Governor to Release Criminal Immigrants to ICE

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is pressing Minnesota’s Democratic Governor Tim Walz to transfer about 1,500 criminal illegal immigrants currently in state custody to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Since the current Trump administration began last year, DHS has focused on deporting serious offenders. However, many states led by Democrats have been reluctant to comply, opting instead to keep these individuals in local custody or allow them to re-enter society.

For instance, Minnesota has over 1,360 illegal offenders in state custody, and officials there have not agreed to turn them over to ICE.

After President Trump took office, Governor Walz—a former candidate for vice president—has been uncooperative with ICE, leading to the release of around 470 criminal illegal immigrants onto the streets of Minnesota. This situation raises concerns about public safety, not just locally but across the country.

DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated:

Governor Walz and Mayor Frey released about 470 criminal illegal immigrants into Minneapolis without cooperating with ICE. We are urging both to reconsider this risky policy and to honor the detainment of over 1,360 criminally illegal immigrants currently in custody. It’s common sense. Criminal illegal immigrants should not be let back onto the streets where they could harm innocent Americans.

DHS provided additional examples of serious offenders released by Governor Walz:

  • Lenny Odemel Ramirez-Santos: An illegal immigrant from Honduras charged with sexual crimes against a child.
  • Edwin Amable Ashka Ninasta: An illegal alien from Ecuador, accused of lewd acts with a minor.
  • Lenda ne mama epse george: An illegal immigrant from Cameroon charged with child abuse and domestic violence.
  • German Adriano Langali Inga: An illegal immigrant from Ecuador charged with vehicular manslaughter.
  • Puol Boto: An illegal alien from Sudan convicted of terroristic threats and robbery.
  • Somsarao Thonesabang: An illegal immigrant from Laos convicted of drug trafficking.
