Paulina Mangubat, an official with the Democratic National Committee, has intensified her online exchange with Katie Miller by referring to her husband, White House official Stephen Miller, as an “ugly piece of shit.”
The DNC’s official account sparked this controversy by responding to Stephen’s message about Texas Democratic candidate James Talarico being the “first transgender candidate for the U.S. Senate.” Their account retorted, “Shut up, you ugly bastard.”
Katie fired back at Mangubat, who she claims manages the DNC’s social media, sharing a photo of him and labeling her an “unhappy” liberal while suggesting she suffers from a “mental illness.” She noted, “She’s 30 years old, unmarried, and has no children.” Katie also stated, “Now put your name in. This is what sad, unhappy female Liberal MPs look like, which is why Pew reports that 50% of them have been diagnosed with a mental illness.”
Mangubat continued to double down on her remarks during an appearance on Media’s Touch show, addressing Katie’s criticisms directly. She reiterated, “I want Katie Miller to know that her husband is an ugly piece of shit. Stephen Miller is among the most powerful individuals in the country right now and has been launching completely false and transphobic attacks on a great candidate in Texas, James Talarico.”
She added, “We just called him ugly, and I think what he’s doing is ugly. He celebrates when ICE shoots Americans in the street and thinks it’s fine that families are being separated, which is absolutely disgusting. So I support calling him an ugly son of a bitch.”
Mangubat stood by her comments, stating, “I said what I said.” However, some observers suggested her social media post could backfire on the Democratic Party. Jesse Arm from the Manhattan Institute remarked, “James Talarico seems to grasp something that many Democratic communications staff in Washington clearly miss. If Democrats want to genuinely contend in states like Texas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Ohio, there’s no such thing as too much moderation.” He added that mocking Stephen Miller wouldn’t aid their political goals.
