On Wednesday afternoon, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) made a rather pointed tweet, telling Stephen Miller to “shut up” in response to his criticism of Texas Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico. Miller had previously mocked Talarico’s appearance while stating that Democrats were making history by nominating the first transgender Senate candidate in Texas.
The tweet sparked a flurry of reactions from conservatives online. Katie Miller, Stephen’s wife, quickly jumped into the fray, identifying the DNC account’s manager, Paulina Mangubat, and highlighting her marital status and lack of children. She went further by attributing perceived unhappiness to her, referencing a Pew Research Center report that claimed a significant portion of liberals have experienced mental health issues.
Some conservative commentators joined the discussion, with one, Benny Johnson, highlighting the apparent hypocrisy of the Democratic Party, which has often called for civility and unity, yet resorts to such personal attacks. Another commentator echoed a similar thought, pointing out the irony in the Democrats criticizing Trump for being mean while engaging in disrespectful rhetoric themselves.
In the midst of this back-and-forth, the Talarico campaign chose not to respond directly, instead directing inquiries to Fox News Digital. Supporters of Talarico were quick to refute Miller’s comments by clarifying that Talarico is, in fact, a cisgender straight man. They argued the conversation should focus on his political stances rather than personal attacks.
Despite the tension, some voices within the Democratic camp also expressed disapproval of the DNC’s tweet, urging the party to be more constructive and avoid engaging in name-calling. As far as a response from the DNC is concerned, no comments have been provided yet.
