Doc Rivers Defends His Statements About ICE Committing 'Straight Up Murder'

Before the matchup between the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics, Rivers made some noteworthy comments. When asked if he thinks both approaches regarding the current issues are valid, he simply responded, “Both.” He added that he wouldn’t change his stance at all.

Rivers expressed a strong opinion on “ICE training,” labeling it as terrible, a sentiment he believes is widely understood. He went on to question the disparity in how Minnesota, with an estimated 130,000 undocumented immigrants, and Texas, which has about 1.7 million, are treated regarding immigration enforcement.

Rivers remarked on the state of the league, saying that players like Olajuwon could easily have been marginalized. He pointed out the uncomfortable truth that many people of color feel they are the targets of such actions. “That’s how we all should be,” he stated, underscoring a moral dilemma about how people are treated based on their appearance. He referenced comments from former DHS Secretary Tom Homan, who suggested that targeting people is often influenced by skin color and language, concluding that we only seem to react to what’s visible.
