Trump Jr. Challenges Cruz Over Fake News Claims
Donald Trump Jr. recently confronted Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) after Cruz made misleading statements regarding a memorandum of understanding between the United States and Iran.
In a social media post, Trump Jr. shared an article from Benjamin Domenech, an opinion editor, where Cruz was quoted saying, “it is not in America’s interest at all for us to pay” to help rebuild Iran. In response, Trump Jr. stated that the U.S. “hasn’t given a dime” to Iran, criticizing Cruz for spreading misinformation about the agreement, calling it a “throwback to MAGA.”
Trump Jr. stated, “The only issue with this quote is that @tedcruz is flat out lying about the agreement. We haven’t given them a dime and he knows it. Using fake news about the peace deal to undermine @realDonaldTrump is the opposite of MAGA.”
Domenech’s post referenced Cruz’s remarks in an interview with the Daily Wire, where Cruz discussed the absurdity of the U.S. implementing a “Marshall Plan” for Iran, similar to the post-World War II aid offered to Europe. He emphasized that it doesn’t make sense for the U.S. to finance the rebuilding of military capabilities that it has previously diminished.
Cruz expressed his agreement with Trump’s military actions against Iran, stating, “It is not in America’s interest in the slightest to pay to rebuild the capabilities that we just took away.” He pointed out that nearly 1,000 Americans had lost their lives due to actions by Iranian leadership, asserting that it was Trump’s duty as commander-in-chief to counter Iran’s military power.
His comments followed the release of the memorandum, which indicates that “the United States commits to working with regional partners to develop a clear, mutually agreed-upon plan for the reconstruction and economic development of the Islamic Republic of Iran at a cost of at least $300 billion.”
In a post on Truth Social, President Trump labeled the rumors about the U.S. paying Iran $300 million as “fake news,” stating, “Iran has agreed to never have nuclear weapons!” and referring to the $300 million claim as misinformation propagated by the Democratic Party.
