ROME – President Donald Trump issued a statement Wednesday commemorating the 40th anniversary of the martyrdom of Father Jerzy Popiełszko, a Catholic priest who helped defeat communism in Poland.
President Trump: “Father Jerzy was a Roman Catholic priest, a Polish patriot, and a defender of workers who bravely lived his life for God, his country, and all people who aspired to live in freedom.'' He was a heroic messenger of the gospel who dedicated his life to the world,” the statement said.
President Trump said the former pastor of the Polish Solidarity Movement was “savagely beaten to death by members of the communist secret police because of his unwavering loyalty to God.”
President Trump also said Father Jerzy, through his martyrdom, helped “crush communism in Europe and liberate not only our fellow Poles but also millions of people in Europe's captive countries.” Among them were “many brave clergy, pastors, and laity who rejected their faith.” Bow your knees to the evil lies and deceptions of Marxism. ”

In his statement, President Trump cited Father Györgyi's example as crucial to understanding how communism ultimately collapsed.
“For this reason, every patriot, every freedom-loving person, every student of history, and every person who studies history, and how atheistic communism was defeated in Europe, and how evil “The immortal story of Father Jerzy Popiełuszko should be remembered and cherished by all people of faith who seek to understand how the world was overcome by goodness,” he wrote.
President Trump also hailed a Polish prelate as a hero of conscience who refused to bow to atheist forces seeking to silence his testimony to God.
With every word he preaches from the pulpit, Trump asserts that “communist forces are determined to block his notary, paralyze his energy, and crush the solidarity movement he helped embolden.” They found in Father Yeji the resistance they could make. I haven't been able to overcome it.
Perhaps reflecting on similar abuses he himself suffered, President Trump noted that the young priest had been “subjected to relentless censorship, surveillance, harassment, and intimidation by the communist regime.”
