Donald Trump Pulling Ahead of Joe Biden in Presidential Race

Former President Donald Trump is leading President Joe Biden in the national race for the White House, according to a Quinnipiac University poll.

Trump Take the lead Biden and Trump face off ahead of Thursday’s presidential debate. The poll shows Trump leading Biden by 4 percentage points: 49 percent approval, 45 percent disapproval. That marks a shift from a May Quinnipiac University poll that showed Biden ahead with 48 percent and Trump ahead with 47 percent. In other words, the controversial guilty verdict handed down by a Manhattan jury in Trump’s business records trial has not hurt Trump in any way. Instead, it seems to be Biden who is suffering.

Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. was a distant third with 11 percent support, followed by Independent candidate Cornel West with 2 percent, Green Party candidate Jill Stein with 2 percent, and Libertarian Party candidate Chase Oliver with 1 percent.

The survey, released ahead of Thursday’s presidential debate, found that a majority of voters (73%) say they plan to watch the debate, but most (82%) acknowledge they are unlikely to change their presidential candidate based on debate performance.

The survey was conducted among 1,405 people who self-identify as registered voters from June 20 to 24, 2024. The margin of error is plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.
