Doriane Pin finishes first F1 test with Mercedes

Mercedes Development Driver Dorian Pynn Takes Major Step

Dorian Pynn, a development driver for Mercedes, has achieved an important milestone in her journey towards joining the F1 grid by participating in a test session at the iconic Silverstone circuit.

Pynn, the reigning F1 Academy Champion for 2025, completed 76 laps in the W12, which played a key role in Mercedes’ 2021 Constructors’ Championship win. This marked her first experience driving an F1 car, and she managed to cover 200 kilometers during Friday’s session.

“It was just amazing to drive a Formula 1 car for the first time today. I’m really thankful for this chance and for the incredible team around me. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and I want to make the most of it and enjoy every moment,” Pynn expressed after the test. “While being a female driver doesn’t define me, it was important to show what we’re capable of. It was such an emotional day, and I’m grateful I could share this moment with my family.” She added, “The W12 is clearly different from any other cars I’ve driven. Everything about it is larger and more powerful. I’m pleased to build my confidence with each lap and demonstrate what I can do.”

Andrew Shovlin, the trackside engineering director for Mercedes, commended Pynn’s “preparation and professionalism” following the session.

“It’s fantastic that Dorian completed a day of testing in the W12 today. This is a significant step in what looks to be an exciting and promising career; she is also the first female driver in a Mercedes F1 car’s history,” Shovlin noted. “Her readiness and professionalism have impressed the entire team, and we should be proud of her achievements. Getting into a Formula 1 car is always a huge leap, regardless of your background, but she felt at home from her first lap and enjoyed pushing the car to its limits.”

During the session, Pynn made history as the first French woman to drive a modern F1 car.

In addition to her responsibilities with Mercedes, Pynn will race for the Duquin team in the 2026 European Le Mans Series, competing in the LMP2 Pro/AM class. After debuting at this prestigious event in 2023, she will have another opportunity to participate in the Le Mans 24 Hours.
