Red Sox’s Grueling Travel and Their Game Against the Mets

If you think your commute is tough, the Boston Red Sox might have you beat. They recently finished a series against the Chicago White Sox and then had to rush to the airport for a flight to New York to face the Mets, right before the All-Star break.

The journey itself was one for the books. After their game, the team faced delays due to an issue with their plane. As reported by MLB.com, they had to return to a hotel in Chicago at 2 a.m. and spend the night there. Honestly, not the best way to prepare for a game.

When they finally got back to the airport early Friday morning, they were hit with another delay because of yet another mechanical issue. It’s almost hard to believe that this kind of thing doesn’t happen more often in pro sports. After almost 24 hours of travel, they arrived at Citi Field just in time for a rescheduled game that was supposed to start at 7:15 p.m. ET, but got pushed to 7:50 p.m. ET due to the delays. You kind of wonder if that extra time made a difference for a team that had already gone through so much.

But, you know how it goes—the Mets have a knack for turning things around against teams that appear to be down and out. The irony is, despite everything, the Red Sox ended up coming out strong. They scored two runs in the first inning and went on to win the game 6-2.

It’s strange, isn’t it? The Red Sox are finding their form while the Mets seem stuck near the bottom of the National League East. Given the circumstances, a loss for the Red Sox would have felt particularly harsh after such a grueling trip. Yet they managed to pull it together.
