Pride Events at Texas Church
It seems we hear so much about LGBTQ+ pride events aimed at families these days, which can be a bit surprising when you think about it. But a church involved in this? That’s not something you come across every day.
In the latest episode of “Come And Take It,” Sarah Gonzalez discusses a pride festival taking place at a Texas church, which has drawn attention.
The event, organized by Carrollton Pride, occurred at the Horizon Unitarian Universalist Church near Dallas.
“Honestly, I wasn’t prepared to see this happening on church grounds,” Sarah remarked.
Among the attendees was the Permanent Dul Sisters, a nonprofit group made up of queer and trans activists who use the imagery of drag nuns to advocate for LGBTQ+ rights.
Sarah recalls how the Dul Sisters were getting accustomed to the recent laws affecting their children, reflecting a troubling past.
As Sarah explored the church, things began to click. The pride event’s host featured messages about “trans-inclusive bathrooms,” “pronoun workshops,” “LGBTQIA+ themed worship,” and “reproductive justice.” There were also many informational brochures related to care and treatment for conditions like HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases, presented by the Unitarian Universalist Ministry of Color.
Perhaps most controversially, a pamphlet offered guidance to congregants on how to shield undocumented immigrants from deportation, misleadingly labeled as “immigrants.” Titled “How US Citizens Protect Immigrant Communities from Deportation Forces,” the document contained bullet points advising members on ways to impede law enforcement.
One bullet even suggested identifying individuals willing to risk arrest to halt enforcement actions, which left Sarah with mixed feelings: “It reads like they’re encouraging obstruction of law enforcement.” She’s skeptical about the intentions behind such guidance.
Sarah expressed her discontent, stating, “This isn’t what a genuine church should embody. It feels like a ‘fake religion’ that thrives on liberal and leftist thoughts.” For those interested in hearing more, Sarah’s complete take is available in the video above.
