Draymond Green ‘had no idea’ Klay Thompson unfollowed Warriors on social media as free agency looms

Klay Thompson’s future with the Golden State Warriors is unclear.

The 34-year-old NBA star is set to hit the free agent market later this month. The Warriors drafted Thompson in the first round in 2011 and he spent his entire NBA career with the Warriors, but his performance over the past few seasons has been inconsistent as he has grown older and been plagued by injuries.

Amid the growing uncertainty, Thompson appeared to unfollow the Warriors on Instagram, but as of Sunday morning, he still appeared to be following the Warriors’ G League affiliate, the Santa Cruz Warriors.

As of Sunday morning, his account still contained numerous Warriors-related photos and videos of Thompson, including a tribute to late assistant coach Dejan “Deki” Milojevic.

The Serbian professional basketball player and coach died after suffering a medical emergency during a private team dinner in Salt Lake City in January. He was 46 years old.

“A denouement that will forever remain in our hearts.” Thompson writes: In the post.

However, Thompson’s most recent post, featuring him in a Warriors jersey, appears to date back to 2022.

The unfollow marks the latest in an ongoing turmoil surrounding Thompson’s future with Golden State. The status of potential contract negotiations between Thompson’s representatives and the Warriors is unclear, but some have speculated the star guard could again be seeking a top-of-the-market contract.

The Warriors reportedly offered Thompson a two-year contract worth an estimated $48 million before the start of the 2023-24 season, but Thompson reportedly rejected the offer.

Thompson’s longtime teammate, Draymond Green, responded on social media, saying he didn’t understand the motive for the move.

“I know you guys were excited for me to tell you about Klay unfollowing the Warriors and deleting his Instagram posts. I had no idea that happened,” Green said on the latest edition of “The Draymond Green Show.” “I think it’s hilarious as hell.

“I think that’s weird. I know you guys think you want to hurt someone’s feelings and stuff, but that’s not it. That’s not true at all. That’s weird.”

Even if Thompson doesn’t play for the Warriors next season, he’ll likely be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame a few years after he decides to retire. The NBA free agency period officially begins on June 30.
