Startling surveillance footage has emerged showing an Amazon delivery driver allegedly punching a 71-year-old man from behind at a gas station, all due to a parking dispute.
The incident took place on March 30 at an ARCO Gas Station in Elk Grove, California, and was shared by the elderly man’s attorney, Tony Buzbee. In the video, the driver, dressed in an Amazon jacket, can be seen aggressively confronting the victim, threatening to “beat [his] a–” before delivering a sucker punch that left the man on the ground.
The alleged attacker, identified as Terrence Wheeler, 30, from Antioch, is facing several charges, including felony elder abuse, felony criminal threats, and misdemeanor battery. The elderly man has since filed a civil lawsuit against both Wheeler and Amazon.
Buzbee indicated that the Amazon driver’s reaction was excessively aggressive, resulting in his client needing treatment for neck pain and a concussion. He expressed concerns about the driver’s potential history of violence, pointing out the need for better screening and training of delivery personnel. “Amazon must do better in the hiring process. When Amazon fails, like here, it must be held accountable,” he stated.
Buzbee also mentioned that the civil case is currently filed in the Superior Court of California, Sacramento County.
According to a spokesperson for Amazon, the driver is not an employee of the company but rather worked with an independent contractor responsible for deliveries. Following their investigation, Amazon reported that they had shared their findings with the contractor and barred the driver from delivering packages for Amazon.
