Sen. Duckworth Critiques Trump Over Military Deaths

During a segment on CNN’s “The Situation Room” on Tuesday, Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) addressed the issue of accountability for the recent deaths of American service members, placing the blame on the President. She stated, “The responsibility for the deaths of 18 service members lies at the feet of the president of the United States.”

Co-host Wolf Blitzer posed a question, referencing Duckworth’s military background: “Considering your sacrifices while serving in Iraq, how do you feel about this loss of American lives, and should the U.S. impose penalties on Iran as President Trump has suggested?”

Duckworth’s response emphasized her disapproval of Trump’s actions, claiming, “First, it’s Trump who started this war without a clear plan for execution. The responsibility for these deaths lies heavily on the President. It rests on his desk, like a gilded Marie Antoinette in the Oval Office.” She implied that Trump’s priorities seem misplaced, prioritizing funds for other nations while neglecting American lives. “Our service members are the country’s most invaluable asset, and we need to have a thorough understanding of our actions before sending them into conflict. We should be clear about our objectives and conditions for success. Trump hasn’t provided any of that.”

She further criticized Trump’s choices, labeling his Secretary of Defense as the most incompetent in history and lamenting the lack of a viable plan for engaging with Iran. Duckworth concluded that the situation needs resolution before further American casualties occur and the economy worsens, warning that allowing Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon would be catastrophic and exemplifies the consequences of ineffective leadership.
