NBA legend Dwyane Wade has launched an online community that provides a “safe space” for transgender youth. The new website, which focuses on LGBTQ communities of color, was launched with the help of the former Miami Heat star’s 16-year-old child, Zaya Wade, who publicly transitioned from biological male to transgender at the age of 12.

The NBA Hall of Famer added, “Translatable has also been a resource hub for parents, families and support systems of LGBTQIA+ youth. Our family has been fortunate to have a community of supporters and knowledgeable professionals who were readily available to give us the tools we needed to support Zaya and her journey.”
“We recognized that there was a lack of understandable and relatable information for young people and families, especially communities of color,” Dwayne continues, “and to this day, we’re still learning.”
“I’m so proud of the daughter I had the opportunity to raise,” Wade said.
“She has been my biggest teacher and inspiration in teaching me what it means to be true to myself,” the basketball star emphasized, “which is why it’s so important for the community to join the conversation and create a supportive space where they can freely express themselves.”
Finally, Wade says, “I want to emphasize that learning never stops, and you can count on constantly evolving content and resources to keep you current and translatable.”
