As a businessman, I know the power of education to prepare workers for their careers.”

“American education is the greatest in the world. It should not be corrupted by political ideology, special interests, or unfair discrimination. Parents, teachers and students are equally valuable,” she added.

I'm hoping for But it was Congress that created it under President Jimmy Carter 45 years ago to sign it quickly to dismantle the division, so officially ending the division would take away the law of Congress.

“The role of the Department of Education in this new era of accountability is to restore the legitimate role of state oversight in education and end the oversight from Washington,” McMahon said.

“The Department of Education is not working as intended. Since its founding in 1980, taxpayers have entrusted more than $1 trillion to the department, but students' achievements have been consistently struggling,” she said.

“Millions of young Americans are trapped in failed schools, in college debt because of degrees that have not received fundamental anti-American ideology or have no meaningful benefits for investment. Teachers leave the profession in large numbers just a few years later, citing the deficit as one of their main reasons,” she continued.

The reality of our education system is harsh, and the American people have elected President Trump to make a big difference in Washington. Our job is to respect the will of the Americans and the President they have chosen. They have left us to achieve the elimination of bureaucratic bloat here at the Ministry of Education (the key final mission),” she said.

McMahon called the department's “final mission” “the last chance to restore culture.” “The freedom and excellence that made American education great” and “confusion leads to innovation and results.”

“Changing the status quo can be daunting, but all staff in this department should be keen on changes that benefit students,” she said.

McMahon also laid out three “beliefs” for the department.

  • Parents are the key decision makers in their children's education.
  • Taxpayer-funded education must refocus on meaningful learning in mathematics, reading, science and history, rather than divisive DEI programs or gender ideology.
  • Postsecondary education should be a path to a high-paying career tailored to the needs of the workforce.

“By removing red tape and bureaucratic barriers, parents can make the best educational choices for their children. The effective transfer of education surveillance to the state means more community autonomy. Teachers also benefit from less micromanagement in the classroom, allowing them to return to basics,” she said.

“I hope that each and every one of you will embrace this vision in the future and use these beliefs as a guide to conscientious and practical actions. The elimination of the bureaucracy should release us, not limiting us, in pursuing these goals. I would like to invite all employees to participate in this historic final mission on behalf of all students.

This is the opportunity to implement one last unforgettable public service to future generations of students. Once our ultimate mission is complete, I hope to join me so that I can say that I left America's education stronger, stronger and with hope for the future,” she concluded.
