Elderly man missing after CrowdStrike outage led to flight cancellation

Her 83-year-old father has been missing for a week after a CrowdStrike glitch caused his flight home to be canceled, authorities said.

Patrick Bailey Sr. had been planning to return home to Northern California last Sunday after visiting his sister in Orlando, Florida, but his Delta flight was canceled due to a computer update by CrowdStrike, the company that caused a massive global technology outage on July 19, halting thousands of flights and causing chaos.

“We’re just at a loss as to how to find him,” said Mr Bailey’s concerned son, Patrick Bailey Jr. He told WESH in a weekend report.

Bailey Sr., a former long-haul truck driver and former Navy member, checked into a hotel for the night after his flight was canceled and left the next morning, but left his cell phone there, relatives said.

The old man then bought a bus ticket through Louisiana, Texas and New Mexico. His son told WFTV.

Investigators were trying Saturday to obtain footage from a Wendy’s restaurant in Louisiana where his debit card was allegedly used.

Authorities were reviewing surveillance footage to see if it was Bailey Sr. who used the card.

“Nobody got any notice that he had come home. Nobody had heard from him,” his son said.

“The real problems started when he left his cell phone at the hotel and we have no other way to contact him or find out where he is,” the son added.

“He hasn’t come home. We’ve hired someone to investigate his house.”

Bailey Jr. said his father had recently been hospitalized with a back injury, and his son said he hoped his father hadn’t tried to drive home in a rental car.

“The way he is right now, I don’t think he’d be able to survive a drive across the country,” Bailey Jr. said.

“Hopefully this all ends well and we find him, but this is a reminder that time flies,” he added.

If you see Bailey Sr., please contact the Orlando Police Department.
