Elderly woman mauled to death by own pit bull, husband and cops injured in attack: ‘The heart and soul of our family is gone’

An elderly Massachusetts woman was attacked and killed by her dog, authorities said. A Boston woman's husband and two police officers were also injured in the dog attack.

Jerilyn Brady McGinnis, 73, of Roxbury, was attacked by her pet pit bull on Monday around 4:30 p.m.

“She gets along very well with the animals, she's like a child…”

Investigators said the dog also attacked the victim's husband as he tried to rescue him, and two Boston police officers also responded to the pit bull attack. All four people were rushed to a local hospital. However, Brady McGinnis reportedly died during surgery.

As the officers were attacked, another officer opened fire on the pit bull, according to WFXT. Outlet obtained surveillance video When police arrived at the scene, footage showed three shots being fired.

The dog was taken to Angell Animal Medical Center for treatment. However, due to “deteriorating condition and poor prognosis,” authorities decided to euthanize the dog, according to Boston Animal Control.

Brady McGinnis is said to have had four dogs. Three other dogs were reportedly removed from the home. the neighbor said WBZ-TV They were afraid of dogs. WBZ-TV spoke with Gene McGuire, the landlord and close friend of Brady McGinniss.

“She was very close with the animals, I think they were like children. She took good care of them,” McGuire said. She walked them every day. ”

McGuire, a 93-year-old civil rights pioneer and the first black woman elected to the Boston School Committee, said McGuire was like a “sister” to her.

“She was a wonderful person. Very generous, very loving person. She loved animals,” McGuire said of McGinnis. “I lost my sister. She's my sister.”

Brady McGinnis' family remembered the elderly victim as having a “heart of gold”.

Brady McGinnis' three children, Chris, Ronald and Donald, told WBZ, “Our mother was a loving and caring mother. She put her children first. … The hearts and souls of my family are gone.”

Brady McGinnis cooked dinner for his dog every night, his family said.

The Boston Police Department's homicide unit is reportedly investigating the dog attack.
