University of Pennsylvania Hit by Email Hack
On Friday, the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education experienced a significant security breach, impacting the school’s email system.
One message sent from the graduate school’s account included derogatory language about the university, calling it a “shithole.” It also accused the institution of violating laws related to hiring and admissions discrimination, as well as privacy rights. The message’s subject line was alarming, stating: “We have been hacked,” and suggested that damaging information about the school could be released.
A spokesperson for the university communicated to the Daily Caller News Foundation that they are “actively working” to address the hack and dismissed the accusations made in the fraudulent email. The university’s website has incorporated a related warning at the top of its page.
The email contained provocative statements, claiming, “The University of Pennsylvania is a shitty elitist institution full of woke retards. Our security practices are abysmal and we’re not completely meritocratic.” It further asserted, “We hire and allow fools because we love our heritage and our donors, but we allow unconditional affirmative action.”
Moreover, the email continued with claims about disregarding federal laws such as FERPA, insisting, “all data leaked,” and mentioning supposed violations of Supreme Court rulings.
“There is a fraudulent email in circulation that appears to come from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education,” the spokesperson reiterated. “This is clearly a fake and highly offensive and harmful message that does not reflect the mission or actions of Penn or Penn GSE. The university’s Office of Information Security is aware of the situation and our incident response team is actively responding.”
As of now, there has been no update on the situation or any indication that control of the system has been regained.
Many elite institutions are currently facing scrutiny regarding their adherence to recent Supreme Court rulings that prohibit affirmative action in admissions. Critics argue that these schools continue to manipulate racial demographics within their student bodies. Additionally, there are calls to eliminate legacy admissions, which preferentially admit the children of alumni.
This incident occurs in the context of ongoing debates about compliance with federal guidelines, which have been highlighted by controversial cases, such as a dispute involving the Trump administration over a swimmer’s participation on a women’s team.
