St. Ann hired Nguyen as a middle and high school math teacher in 2020, just a year after he was released from Rikers Island prison.

While at Rikers Island, Nguyen reportedly called into radio shows and spoke with then-Mayor Bill de Blasio to complain about conditions at the jail.

Nguyen was convicted of stealing $300,000 from a 96-year-old blind man and his 92-year-old wife. New York PostNguyen worked as a home health aide for an elderly couple but allegedly stole the money to pay for expensive ballet tickets and a trip to Florida.

Regarding Nguyen’s criminal history, a St. Anne’s spokesman said: The Daily Beast“A nonviolent criminal record is not a barrier to employment, and schools carefully and thoughtfully evaluate job applicants to see if they are a good fit for the school.”

In response to the current allegations against Nguyen, a spokesperson said, “We are fully cooperating with law enforcement efforts and are currently focused on helping students process this news.”

A spokesman confirmed that Nguyen was “a suspect in an ongoing investigation relating to the dissemination of intimate images through social media”.

“Following his arrest on Thursday, the school immediately placed him on administrative leave and he remains on administrative leave,” the spokesperson added.

St Anne’s principal Kenyatte Reid reportedly informed parents that a teacher had been arrested and that it was in connection with “inappropriate sexual imagery.”

“I was informed by the Assistant District Attorney this evening that his arrest is related to an investigation dating back to January 2024,” Reed wrote in an email to parents.

Nguyen has not yet been charged with any crime and was released Saturday, but his lawyers are awaiting information from prosecutors regarding possible charges.

Attorney Frank Rothman said: New York Post“We await the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office’s decision regarding the charges against Mr. Nguyen and hope to see movement in the near future.”

“I don’t think this will just be a problem. It will be a problem. The question is how big a problem it will be and when,” Rothman told The Daily Beast.

Nguyen rose to fame when he was crowned “Jeopardy!” champion in 2014.
