Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) commented on Wednesday that Donald Trump has opted to be “the crypto industry’s biggest profiteer” instead of taking on the role of a leader for the working class.
“Corrupt” Cryptocurrency Profits
Financial disclosures show that in 2025, Trump made approximately $1.4 billion from crypto-related businesses, which is more than any publicly traded crypto company in the U.S. Overall, he reported earnings exceeding $2 billion during his first year in office.
Warren stated, “You can be the biggest profiteer in the crypto industry, or you can be the president of working people. You can’t be both,” emphasizing that Trump opted for “illicit” crypto profits.
“You can be the biggest profiteer in the crypto industry, or you can be the boss of working people. You can’t be both. President Trump’s $2.2 billion in illegal cryptocurrency profits speaks volumes about his choice.”
Uproar Over Trump’s Virtual Currency Windfall
Reports indicate that Trump earned over $520 million from the sale of issued tokens and around $635 million in royalties from a meme coin associated with him. Meanwhile, around 1 million TRUMP meme coin holders reportedly faced total losses of $3.81 billion.
In response, Trump defended his cryptocurrency earnings, asserting that they were neither “illegal” nor “fraudulent.” He also stressed the importance of the U.S. leading in the cryptocurrency space to avoid falling behind nations like China.
Warren, on the other hand, criticized the current draft of the Clarity Act for having “serious flaws” and accused the Senate of implementing legislation that could further benefit Trump’s crypto business.
A spokesperson from the White House earlier stated that the Trump administration’s actions are conducted with “the best interests of the American people” in mind, denying any claims of a “conflict of interest.” They also suggested that the media is merely repeating narratives pushed by Democrats for years.
