Vivian Wilson Leaves Interview After Question About Elon Musk

Vivian Wilson, Elon Musk’s estranged daughter, unexpectedly walked out of a red carpet interview when asked about her father.

During an event for Desigual Vintage in Ibiza, Spain, Wilson, who came out as transgender in 2020, found herself confronted with questions about the billionaire entrepreneur.

“Your father is the best, right?” a reporter posed.

“Why? Are you sorry?” replied Wilson, 22.

The reporter reiterated the question, claiming, “Dad was the best.”

Wilson seemed taken aback and responded with, “Okay.” She later appeared to react strongly once the interview concluded, as seen in social media clips.

This interaction serves as a recent reminder of the ongoing tension between Wilson and Musk.

Since changing her name and legally altering her gender in 2022, she has consistently voiced her discontent with her father, expressing her desire to sever ties with him.

In a court filing in 2022, Wilson stated she “no longer wants to be associated” with Musk, and their divergent views on their relationship have been public. Musk, in a 2023 discussion with author Walter Isaacson, mentioned Wilson had turned into a “full-fledged communist” and insinuated that a private school in Santa Monica might have influenced her views.

He later claimed he was “tricked” into signing documents related to her gender transition.

In a conversation with Canadian psychologist Jordan Peterson in 2024, Musk reflected on his feelings: “I essentially lost my son.” He described the term “deadnaming” as metaphorical for losing his son, Xavier, due to the “woke mind virus.”

Wilson, however, countered that Musk was largely absent during her childhood. “He doesn’t know what it was like when I was a kid, because he just wasn’t there,” she shared with NBC News, recalling her struggles with harassment due to her identity.

She has characterized Musk as “apathetic” and “narcissistic,” clearly stating she has little interest in keeping in touch with him. “I want to make it clear that I didn’t disown him, not the other way around,” she later commented on social media.

Recently, Wilson discussed the challenges of growing up as the child of one of the wealthiest individuals, describing the experience as “isolating” and “weird.”

Reflecting on an early experience with homelessness she witnessed, she said, “I remember seeing homelessness when I was very young and feeling sick to my stomach. People accused me of being a dramatic childish person. But no, I was right to be a little dramatic about it.”

Wilson is among Musk’s eldest children; she and her twin brother, Griffin, were born in California in 2004 during Musk’s marriage to Justine Wilson. Over the years, Musk has fathered 14 children with various partners, including Justine Wilson, musician Grimes, Neuralink executive Siobhan Gillis, and influencer Ashley St. Clair.
