Ex-FBI agent says investigators are narrowing in on 'porch guy' in Nancy Guthrie case, surprising Megyn Kelly

A former FBI agent suggests that authorities may be closing in on the masked, armed figure known as the “porch man,” who was captured on a doorbell camera the night Nancy Guthrie was abducted.

“I think they’re getting close to the guy on the porch. Once they do, I believe everything will start to unfold,” said former FBI special agent Maureen O’Connell during a conversation with Megyn Kelly, who seemed genuinely surprised by the revelation.

O’Connell, referencing her sources, expressed a “75 percent” confidence level regarding the imminent capture of this unforgettable figure, who has managed to evade law enforcement for nearly five months.

“That’s significant news. If this holds true, it’s a considerable development,” Kelly responded, visibly taken aback.

Nancy Guthrie, who is 84 and the mother of Today host Savannah Guthrie, was taken from her home in Tucson, Arizona, in the early hours of February 1. As of now, the suspect remains unidentified.

Shortly after her abduction, authorities released unsettling footage showing a masked man, armed with a handgun, entering Guthrie’s home. He directly faced a surveillance camera, placing a flashlight in his mouth and attempting to obscure the lens with his gloved hand. He then picked flowers from Nancy’s garden to further obscure the view, all while wearing a fleece and carrying a backpack.

O’Connell noted that the long wait for an arrest stems from the investigative team’s careful approach to building a solid case, as they anticipate a potential trial. “From the very start, the aim is to prepare for trial. Every action taken is focused on prosecution,” she explained.

She emphasized that the individual leading this case will likely contend with a highly skilled defense lawyer, hence the necessity to construct a case that can withstand the possible rejection of key evidence. “They have to structure everything with that assumption,” she added.
