Oh, come on, really? That’s not accurate.
Former President Joe Biden typically takes Amtrak to his government office in D.C. most weeks. While there’s not much to talk about regarding his current work, it appears he’s a bit out of practice when it comes to train etiquette.
“He was speaking in the quiet car!” one shocked passenger relayed.
The 82-year-old, who used to make similar trips from Delaware during his 36 years in the Senate, seems a bit rusty with the cafe offerings, too.
Recently, he requested his go-to snack—ice cream—but ended up with a muffin instead.
Amtrak’s “quiet car” is located just behind first class, and the unwritten rule there is essentially “keep it down!” Violators can expect some disapproving looks.
And, not surprisingly, the former president’s latest journey made its rounds on social media, with fellow riders snapping photos. There was even a brief interview with Dana Bash from CNN on May 8.
On his last trip, there was an issue with the train near Baltimore, leading to quite a few passengers wanting pictures with him.
Biden dropped out of the race for reelection last year, largely due to concerns from allies about his cognitive abilities. He makes these visits to D.C. weekly, as reported by the Wall Street Journal.
It’s a bit of a mystery what exactly he’s doing at his temporary office near D.C.’s Union Station, as mentioned by some former White House staffers.
The General Services Administration will cover the office costs until July. So, if Biden plans to keep commuting, he might need to find a new space soon.
“Honestly, it’s a mystery,” remarked one former aide about his time in D.C. “The remaining staff are just figuring things out.”
Biden is said to have plans for a book, and sources indicated he’s discussed with the media how his family is managing financially since losing his $400,000 presidential salary.
“They’re supposed to get something set up at the library, but no one seems interested,” one person pointed out.
“He doesn’t dine out or socialize much around here, so we’re all quite curious.”
On a related note, Biden’s son, Hunter, has admitted to difficulties in selling his work, despite having previously made millions overseas.
The former president’s spokesperson didn’t respond right away about what Biden was up to or whether he acknowledged the confusion over talking in the quiet car.
