House Republicans met with FCC Chairman Brendan Kerr and Republican Research Committee Chairman (Texas) on Wednesday to discuss the evolving media landscape under President Donald Trump's administration.
During the closed door meeting where Blaze News was granted exclusive access, both Pfluger and Carr are concerned about the liberal bias on publicly funded platforms such as NPR and the importance of empowering local media.
Carr, who has been the FCC commissioner since 2017, builds on the importance of the freedom of speech and the First Amendment and the importance of equally applying existing regulations rather than moving forward on the political agenda.
“RSC is committed to working with Chairman Carr to dismantle the censored cartel, strengthen America's digital infrastructure through free market principles, and restore the rights of everyday Americans to free speech.”
“This government, especially in the past few years, your last name has determined how the government treated you,” Kerr said. “If your last name was Soros, the committee bent backwards and gave you a special, unprecedented committee-level shortcut to buy 200 radio stations. If your last name was Musk, you lost the $800 million contract you legally earned.”
“Everyone is trying to shake things up right now,” Kerr added.
At the meeting, Carr created a four-stage plan to reduce media bias and restore core FCC principles. This will propose suppressing large-scale technical censorship, reinvigorating trust in the national and local media, and enhancing the national security aspects.
With the support of Pfluger and RSC members, Carr is confident that they can achieve these directives.
“We appreciate the bold leadership in confronting the malicious influences of George Soros, who silence the conservative voices of media and silence. The committee is fully supportive of efforts to restore the truth to our public disclosures while expanding broadband access to rural communities,” says Pfluger.
“RSC is committed to working with Chairman Kerr to dismantle the censorship cartels, strengthening America's digital infrastructure through free market principles, and restoring the right to free speech for everyday Americans,” added Pfluger.
Kerr also spoke about some of the reforms he has already enacted. Before he became chairman, Day noted that he was the FCC's second-most prioritized core value. Since then, Trump has issued executive orders from all federal agencies uprooting DEIs, and the FCC has followed suit.
“We've finished the FCC promotion for DEI,” Kerr said. “If you realize how embedded Dei's promotion is in the work of FCC, you're furious. …We were spending millions of dollars on Dei. Meanwhile, what fell by Wayside is the actual core work of the FCC, and doing it competently.”
