Expert warns liberals that MAGA isn't going anywhere anytime soon

Liberal activist Michael Moore once described then-candidate Donald Trump as “the human Molotov cocktail” for his potential to disrupt the established systems. He seemed to think that even if the public rallied behind the White House, Trump would fall short of his promises and not be particularly effective as president.

In a twist that surprises Moore and other liberal activists, predictions about Trump’s decline seem off-base. He hasn’t just made some of his promised changes; he’s played a pivotal role in fostering a movement that’s persistently pushing for a “golden age” rooted in assertive, nationalist conservatism.

There’s a mix of optimism and skepticism about the longevity of the “Make America Great Again” movement. A number of voices from both sides of the political spectrum have expected it to lose traction, especially once Trump steps out of the limelight. However, the momentum ignited back in 2016 continues to have a powerful presence.

Harry Enten, CNN’s chief data analyst, noted recently that the MAGA movement is “more powerful than ever,” particularly among Republicans. He highlighted a Marquette University poll showing an increase in favorable views of MAGA among Republicans, jumping from 74% two years ago to 78% currently.

Enten remarked that the influence Trump has had on the Republican Party is likely to continue even after he can no longer run for office. Interestingly, he pointed to J.D. Vance, who appears to be a frontrunner for the 2028 Republican presidential nomination, as someone who embodies the MAGA message.

Vance’s favorability rating among Republicans has also ticked up, rising from 81% last year to 84% now. This suggests that his alignment with Trump has only solidified over time. Enten emphasized that the perception of Trump as a positive force in the party has grown; before Trump’s second term campaign, 62% of Republicans felt he had a positive influence, a number that surged to 71%. Many on the left might wish to believe that the MAGA movement is dwindling, but the data hints otherwise.

Enten summed it up well: Trump, MAGA, and figures like Vance aren’t going anywhere.
