Family Files Lawsuit After Alleged Sexual Assault Involving Transgender Athlete
A family from Washington state has initiated legal action against several government figures, claiming their daughter experienced sexual assault by a transgender athlete during a women’s wrestling event.
The defendants include the Washington Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Puyallup School District, the Washington Middle School Activities Association, Superintendent Chris Lakeda, and various school officials. The lawsuit also names biological male athletes and their families as defendants.
The central figure in the case is referred to as KMK, believed to be Callie Keeler, a high school student in Washington. In February 2026, she discussed on “The Brandy Kruse Show” an incident where a transgender athlete allegedly committed sexual assault during a wrestling match.
“A 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in a display of political cowardice, with officials in Washington state pushing their gender ideology at any cost, even if it jeopardizes the safety and privacy of these girls,” stated Kate Anderson, a Senior Advisor for the Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF).
Callie, unaware that the other competitor was a male, sensed something was wrong during the match. This incident prompted Kristen Waggoner, an ADF representative, to support the legal action against the state’s officials, emphasizing the prioritization of gender ideology over safety.
Waggoner expressed, “Our client’s experiences highlight the serious damage caused by false claims about biology. This must stop. If it doesn’t, more girls will suffer. We urge state authorities to ensure that girls don’t have to compete in unsafe environments. We’re asking the court for policy changes to safeguard the privacy and security of girls. It’s crucial that parents are informed if their daughters are to compete against male athletes.”
The lawsuit highlights the tragedy that, due to school district policies, a 15-year-old girl was sexually assaulted during a wrestling match against a male opponent. Although Callie’s mother was present at the event, she couldn’t intervene because district policies prevented parental notification about such competitions. The family reported the assault to school officials, who allegedly took nearly two months to respond.
A significant concern in the ADF’s lawsuit is that the policies of the WIAA, Puyallup School District, and state education leaders violate KMK’s rights. These policies permit transgender athletes to compete in women’s sports without informing female athletes or their guardians.
The complaint asserts that KMK unknowingly competed against biological males during women’s events and claims that her alleged sexual assault was neither properly reported nor addressed by the authorities.
