Authorities report that a father and son were found with gunshot wounds following a six-hour standoff with police after allegedly robbing a bank in Connecticut.
Sean Fallon, 56, and his 27-year-old son, Zachary Fallon, entered Chelsea Groton Bank in Groton around 10:30 a.m. last Thursday, threatened a teller, and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash while wearing medical masks.
The police located their getaway vehicle at a Super 8 Motel later that day, leading to a standoff as both men were reportedly armed with firearms and explosives, and refused to comply with police demands to surrender.
During the incident, police stated that “two gunshots were heard inside the suspect’s hotel room,” and a drone confirmed that both suspects appeared to have died from gunshot wounds.
After the area was cleared of other guests, a bomb squad was able to enter the room, but no explosives were found, although the types of weapons in their possession have not been detailed.
Both men, hailing from Charleston, Rhode Island, were transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital, where Zachary was declared dead a few hours later. Sean remained hospitalized for several days before succumbing to his injuries on Monday, according to police updates.
The official causes of death for both individuals will be determined by the medical examiner’s office.
“This is a very dangerous and unstable situation, and I commend the courage and professionalism of all the law enforcement agencies involved in resolving it,” Police Commissioner LJ Fusalo commented in a statement.
The investigation is still ongoing, according to authorities.
