Tragic Crash in Colorado Claims Lives of Father and Three Children
Authorities in Colorado have identified a father and three young children who tragically lost their lives in a car crash involving a stolen vehicle. The incident occurred on Monday, but the suspect’s identity has yet to be disclosed.
The victims are 35-year-old Alvin Corrado from Colorado Springs, along with his children—11-year-old Makenley Corrado, 8-year-old Toretto Corrado—and 12-year-old Jace Green, a friend of the family. The crash happened around 4:40 p.m. on State Route 83 when a man driving a stolen car veered into oncoming traffic, according to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP).
The collision involved a stolen Toyota hatchback and the family’s Ford sedan, occurring near milepost 40.5. Reports indicate that the Toyota was reported stolen just before the accident, following a carjacking at Aurora’s Nine Mile Station.
It appears the suspect, described only as a 31-year-old man from Denver, forcibly removed a woman from the driver’s seat of the Toyota before fleeing. While attempting to navigate the highway, he reportedly lost control and collided head-on with the family’s vehicle.
All four—Alvin, McKenley, Toretto, and Jace—died at the scene. Fortunately, McKenley’s 13-year-old sister, Mia, and Jace’s 14-year-old brother, were sitting in the back seat and survived, albeit with life-threatening injuries. They were airlifted to a local hospital.
The Aurora Police Department (APD) has withheld the suspect’s identity, citing their policy and possibly his criminal past. Although he has a criminal history, the specific reasons for keeping his name a secret haven’t been shared.
Mia’s condition is grave. Her mother, Marissa Corrado, provided updates on social media, revealing that Mia has suffered severe injuries including a lacerated liver and a fractured pelvis. While she was initially moved to a wheelchair, ongoing health issues continue to affect her.
In an emotional update, Marissa described Mia’s heartbreaking response upon learning about her father and brother’s deaths. It’s a harrowing tale that no child should have to face, witnessing such tragedy.
A wake is planned for McKenley and Toretto in Colorado Springs. Their joint funeral will take place in South Dakota, timed with Mia’s recovery. A GoFundMe page has been created to assist with funeral expenses and Mia’s medical costs, in addition to compensating Marissa for lost wages due to her caregiving.
McKenley’s school released a heartfelt statement regarding her loss, calling her a vibrant and beloved member of the school community. During this profoundly difficult time, Marissa has asked for prayers and support as they navigate this unimaginable tragedy.
