An Ohio man has been implicated in a disturbing case where 16 children were allegedly kept in unsanitary conditions. This father, Gary Siders Jr., 36, reportedly exposed himself to neighbors multiple times during one chaotic week in May, court records reveal.
Documents indicate that Siders exposed his “private parts” on May 23, May 27, May 29, and May 31. This led to authorities filing a criminal complaint on June 30, coinciding with the execution of a search warrant that uncovered the appalling living conditions at his Vinton County home.
Authorities had no clue that 16 children, described as “nearly feral,” were living in the house when they arrived to arrest Siders. The children, ranging from 18 months to 18 years, were reportedly confined in a small room filled with human waste.
“Some of the children couldn’t even speak,” stated Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson, highlighting the dire situation. He expressed shock, saying, “They were almost like wild animals. Just getting these kids to be able to do basic things like education is an enormous challenge. One of them is 18 years old and can’t spell her own name.”
Siders, alongside his wife Elizabeth, 33, and his parents Gary Sr., 73, and Christina, 66, has been charged with several counts of child endangerment. Notably, Siders married Elizabeth when he was just 18 and she was 15 in 2008.
Reportedly, the couple welcomed a baby boy—now 18—just two months after their wedding. The group of children includes a 16-year-old, two 15-year-olds, a 14-year-old, and younger kids down to twins aged 1 and 2 years.
Among the children, seven were hospitalized, with two requiring treatment at a trauma center. One child was reported to be in critical condition.
All four individuals implicated are facing up to 16 charges of child endangerment, with bail set at $300,000 each. They could potentially face a combined sentence of 192 years if convicted. While it remains unclear if the Siders are the biological parents of all the children, Elizabeth’s attorney suggests that she is their mother.
Siders is due in court on July 23 for charges related to public indecency.
