Feds Tend to ‘Think Everything Is a Secret’, Should Have Been ‘Honest’ About Drone Reports Much Earlier

On “CNN Newsroom” on Tuesday, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.) said the federal government should have been “honest with the American people sooner” about the reported drone sightings. And this is a huge problem in our national security apparatus. ” There, “we consider everything secret and cannot tell the public anything.”

Mr Swalwell said:[T]I think the government has been praising this issue for too long and thinking about this issue for too long instead of confronting the American people head on. The FBI also issued a warning yesterday that people shouldn't point lasers at aircraft in the sky thinking they are drones, as they could actually bring down a passenger plane. And, again, I say, let's just step back and be honest with the American people, and let's do it sooner. And this is a big problem in our national security apparatus, that we sometimes become overprotective. And we think about this — we think that everything is secret and that we can't tell the public anything. And they, like everyone else, begin to wonder what this is all about. And this is what we saw in some of the UAP hearings that we had earlier this year, Congress and the American people just want the government to be more honest and forthright with them. It is. ”
