Ferrari sees Monaco Grand Prix as their best opportunity to challenge Mercedes' superiority

F1 Approaches Monaco Grand Prix

This weekend, Formula 1 will focus on the Monaco Grand Prix, a highlight of the racing calendar. While Mercedes has dominated the season so far, this race could offer Ferrari a solid shot at success.

To date, Mercedes has secured wins in every race, excluding the Miami Sprint, which was clinched by Lando Norris of McLaren. This has created a noticeable gap between them and Ferrari. However, Monaco could be the venue where Ferrari breaks Mercedes’ stronghold and challenges championship leader Kimi Antonelli.

Ferrari’s vehicles are thought to be well-suited for the intricate and tight circuit that Monaco is known for. Observing Ferrari this season, their acceleration at the start of races has really stood out. They’ve looked incredibly quick off the line, while Mercedes seems to lag behind a bit.

Monaco features some of the slowest corners in the racing calendar, like the Hotel Hairpin and La Rascasse. These tricky turns can be challenging to navigate. Unlike other tracks, drivers can’t simply rely on straight-line speed here. But for Ferrari, it’s not as much of a disadvantage—they have managed to find their rhythm in these slower sections.

Now, if Ferrari can maximize their performance during Saturday’s qualifying, they could potentially secure a pole position. Securing that front spot at Monaco is crucial, given how difficult it is to overtake on this circuit.

Lando Norris, the reigning champion, shares this sentiment. He mentioned that he expects Ferrari to be in a strong position. “Honestly, I think Ferrari will take pole position in Monaco next weekend,” he said. “Their low-speed performance is much better than anyone else.”

However, even if Charles Leclerc or Hamilton claims the front spot, numerous factors could influence the race. Weather changes, potential crashes, or technical hitches can throw a wrench into things.

Ultimately, in Monaco, the crucial element is starting in the best possible position—something Ferrari is aiming for more than ever this season.
