Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) is calling on President Trump to “strike and eliminate” Iran’s nuclear sites just before upcoming discussions later this week.
“Negotiating with a regime that has caused instability in the region for many years is futile. I believe there are significant opportunities to strike and eliminate Iran’s nuclear facilities,” Fetterman stated on Wednesday. Washington Free Beacon.
Fetterman’s remarks come as the Trump administration’s two-month deadline approaches for finalizing an agreement regarding Iran’s nuclear program.
While Trump has shown optimism ahead of this week’s third round of discussions, it remains uncertain whether the two nations can reach an agreement to dismantle Iran’s nuclear initiative.
Fetterman dismissed the views of foreign policy analysts predicting a U.S. military strike on Iran.
He criticized Iran’s allied group Hezbollah, stating they “don’t engage in combat,” and referred to the Palestinian militant group Hamas as “a collection of tunnel fighters with makeshift rockets in a pickup truck.”
It remains unclear if the Trump administration will contemplate a deal with Iran akin to the Obama-era agreement, which curtailed the country’s capacity to develop nuclear weapons but preserved its facilities.
Fetterman acknowledged Trump’s rationale for exiting the Obama-era pact years ago, but expressed confusion over “why Trump is dealing with an administration that is ineffective.”
“Discussions should be about deploying massive bombs and the IDF [Israel Defense Forces],” Fetterman asserted.
The Pennsylvania Senator has been an outspoken advocate for Israel during the conflict with Hamas and its adversaries.
