A flight attendant for American Airlines tragically lost her life after being struck by a boat while snorkeling in South Florida. Her body was discovered later on the beach.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reported that Kelly Melinda Williams, aged 31, was found by fishermen near Hollywood Beach around 8 p.m. on Wednesday. The authorities noted that her body showed signs of injuries consistent with a possible boat collision.
Williams was declared dead on Saturday after it was confirmed that she had died from blunt force trauma.
According to officials, she likely went snorkeling or diving near Dr. Von D. Mizell Eula Johnson State Park on June 3. Investigators from both the Florida Department of Fish and Wildlife Conservation and local Hollywood detectives are currently looking into the incident.
So far, there hasn’t been any information released regarding the boat involved or the individuals who were on it, and no charges have been made.
One eyewitness shared a moment from that night, recalling, “Two fishermen were just off the beach, and I could see them pulling something. I didn’t realize it was a body until later.” That was Emilio Benitez talking to NBC6 South Florida.
Williams’ parents described their daughter as highly skilled in snorkeling and a “wonderful person.”
Originally from California, Williams moved to Florida and recently got married within the past year.
The Professional Flight Attendants Association, based in Miami, informed Williams’ colleagues about her death via an Instagram post, expressing profound sadness over the loss. Their message included heartfelt condolences for her family and friends.
American Airlines also expressed sorrow for the loss of their colleague, stating that their thoughts remain with her family, friends, and coworkers during this difficult time.
