Joe Kent Backs Mark Lynch in South Carolina Senate Primary
Joe Kent, who previously led the National Counterterrorism Center, has voiced his support for Mark Lynch, a candidate in the South Carolina Republican Senate primary, labeling incumbent Senator Lindsey Graham as a “hawk” and “neocon.”
Kent urged South Carolinians to take action against sending “billions of dollars overseas” and to avoid ongoing foreign conflicts, specifically in the Middle East. He appealed to voters to consider removing Graham from office in a video shared on social media, emphasizing the importance of the upcoming election on June 9th.
“Please vote for Mark Lynch,” Kent stated. He described Lynch as an “America First candidate,” asserting that he is well-placed to challenge the established political figures like Graham.
In response, Graham’s campaign spokesperson Abby Zilch dismissed Kent’s endorsement, referencing Kent’s controversial past and the strong backing Graham has from prominent Republican figures and organizations.
Lynch acknowledged Kent’s dedication to the country and the personal tragedy he faced with the loss of his wife, Shannon Kent, during a terrorist attack in Syria. Lynch stated he is honored to have Kent’s support along with other notable figures.
Despite Lynch’s efforts, President Trump, who had previously backed Graham’s re-election, criticized Lynch on social media this year. He reiterated his support for Graham while labeling Lynch unfavorably.
Lynch has shown support for other controversial Republican representatives, indicating a preference for more divisive figures within the party.
As the election looms, Kent’s prior resignation over his stance against the war in Iran and Trump’s harsh words about him adds layers of complexity to the race, revealing a political landscape that is both fractured and charged.
Graham, meanwhile, has consistently campaigned since his entry into the Senate in 2003, positioning himself as a steady Republican voice.
