NYC Fashion Week Show Highlights Local Designers
On Wednesday, New York City’s Polls took a break from traditional runway shows to shine a spotlight on over 30 local designers during the event “Style a Road the Advice.”
Among the notable politicians strutting down the runway were former Governor Andrew Cuomo, ex-Governor David Paterson, Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, and former Congressman Carolyn Maloney.
Maloney remarked, “Today, we are kicking off Fashion Week and raising funds for a very important cause,” as she got ready for the show.
“We need to save the Clothing District. It’s the heart of New York fashion and a vital industry for the city,” she added.
Notably absent were Democratic mayoral candidates Eric Adams and Congressman Zohran Mamdani, who had hosted last year’s fashion event at Gracie Mansion, Cuomo’s official residence.
Additionally, a representative from the city’s left wing was also missing from the occasion.
Todd Shapiro, a spokesperson for Adams’ campaign, addressed the absence of certain politicians, noting, “No one embodies the term government fashion quite like the mayor. Some elected officials are still in suits from the 1970s. While Cuomo walks the runway, Mayor Adams is holding town hall meetings across the five boroughs.”
Other politicians present included Republican Mayor Curtis Swa, city council members Julie Menin, Joanne Ariola, Altea Stevens, and Julie Wong, as well as Republican candidates Eddie Gibbs, Jennifer Rajkumar, Jordan Wright, and Rebecca Sawright.
Most attendees were moderate Democrats, further showcasing the diverse political landscape of the event.
