Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Austin Maddox has been arrested as part of an underage sex sting in Florida.

Jacksonville Sheriff TK Waters announced Monday that Maddox was one of 27 people arrested late last month as part of a multi-agency investigation.

Officials said the former MLB player and others arrested are charged with soliciting sexual acts from a minor online.

Maddox’s attorney, James Hill, said he intends to contest the charges against him and enter a not guilty plea if formally charged.

According to an arrest report, the 33-year-old former pitcher began a conversation with an undercover agent posing as an underage girl on April 28.thHe expressed his intention to meet up with her and have sex with her, but the agent told him in the messages that she was only 14 years old.

Maddox was arrested shortly after at the location where he had arranged to meet the underage female.

He is currently charged with four felonies.

Maddox played at the University of Florida before being drafted by the Boston Red Sox in 2012. He made his major league debut with the team in 2017 and was on the roster for three months before returning to the minors due to a shoulder injury. He was released by the team in 2019.

Maddox is currently being held in jail on $300,000 bail.
