Following the recent release of The Terror: Silver Devil, news about a potential season four of this horror anthology is already buzzing among fans.
Producer David W. Zucker shared that the creative team has started working on what could be the next season. He mentioned Scott Free Productions has secured the rights for the upcoming installment and hinted at a possible animated format.
In an interview, when asked if the latest season would wrap up the trilogy, Zucker suggested there’s more to come. “We just signed a deal for the next book we will develop,” he said, which gives a sense that plans are indeed in motion.
But, of course, that’s not an official announcement. AMC hasn’t confirmed season four yet, and there are quite a few obstacles to navigate before anything becomes concrete. However, it does imply that discussions are taking place behind the scenes.
Don’t count on this process to be quick, though. The show has seldom stuck to a traditional TV schedule. There was even a seven-year pause between the second and third seasons, mostly due to COVID-19 and the dual strikes in Hollywood in 2023.
This anthology, based on Dan Simmons’ novel, first aired on AMC in 2018. In the latest season, two Royal Navy vessels get trapped in Arctic ice while searching for the Northwest Passage, only to be hunted by haunting supernatural beings.
Season two, titled The Terror: Infamy, occurred in a Japanese American internment camp during World War II, where malevolent spirits tormented the detainees. The most recent season features a modern-day psychological horror narrative set in a mental hospital, adapted from Victor LaValle’s book, also called The Terror: Silver Devil, which unravels dark secrets within.
Despite the considerable wait between seasons, the anthology maintains its strengths. Current ratings for Silver Devil show a 95% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, underlining the series’ status as a leading horror anthology on television.
Yet, the viewership numbers for the latest season remain unclear. AMC hasn’t disclosed how many watched it, as it didn’t air on their traditional network but rather premiered on AMC+ and Shudder. Depending on how the fourth season shapes up and who joins the project, it’s possible the show could revert to a more traditional release strategy.
For the time being, though, fans have reasons to feel hopeful. While there hasn’t been an official update, Scott Free Productions is already preparing for another installment of terror.
