Frederik Andersen honors Claude Lemieux with a sincere tribute

Frederik Andersen, the goaltender for the Hurricanes, shared a heartfelt tribute to his agent, Claude Lemieux, on Sunday. He highlighted the “care, compassion, loyalty, and love” Lemieux offered throughout their relationship.

The recent suicide of Lemieux has left the hockey community in shock, deeply impacting players like Andersen.

“Over the 15 years Claude was in my life, he had an immense influence on me,” Andersen expressed in a statement. “It’s unfortunate for those who didn’t get to know him beyond his incredible accomplishments on the ice. While his hockey career was remarkable, he was an even better person. Right from the start, he welcomed me into his family, treating me like his own son with unwavering care and support. His impact extended to my family too, leaving a mark on all he encountered.”

“I can’t fathom the struggles he must have faced. I truly hope he’s found peace now. My thoughts are with Deborah, Brendan, Claudia, and the entire Lemieux family as they navigate this loss. Claude’s spirit will forever stay with me.”

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reported that Lemieux, who was 60, took his life early Thursday morning in the family business’s warehouse, where he was sadly discovered by one of his sons.

According to Colombe Lacroix, a family friend, Lemieux battled depression leading up to his passing.

In the wake of his death, fans gathered at the store on Friday to honor the NHL legend, who had triumphed in the Stanley Cup with teams like the Canadiens, Devils, and Avalanche.

Post-game, Andersen was visibly emotional when interviewed by TNT Sports following the Hurricanes’ advancement to the Stanley Cup. When asked what Lemieux might say to him after the victory, he shared, “Just take it. He was fiercely competitive but had the biggest heart. He wanted nothing but success for me and this team.”
