College Freshman Dies in Accidental Drowning
A California freshman tragically drowned during a weekend trip with fellow students from Arizona, as reported by the Sigma Pi Fraternity from Cal State Fullerton.
Simon Daniel, 18, was at Lake Havasu River when he chose to swim with a friend on Saturday. He, along with three fraternity brothers and two sorority members, entered the water.
Unfortunately, several fraternity members attempted to rescue the group of six students. The fraternity stated that Simon was caught off guard by a sudden wave that pushed him away from one of the rescuers, resulting in him disappearing beneath the surface.
Efforts to save him began quickly, with students calling 911. The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office, alongside other agencies, used divers and sonar technology in their search for Daniel.
On Sunday morning, authorities recovered his body. Daniel was pursuing a degree in computer science and is survived by his mother. Family members did not immediately respond for comments on the situation.
