Trump was injured while addressing supporters at a rally and rushed off the stage, leaving one rally-goer dead and two seriously injured, Breitbart News reported.
The outlet reported on Sunday that the defiant former president plans to attend the upcoming Republican National Convention in Wisconsin despite the assassination attempt.
About two hours after the attack, President Trump posted on Truth Social offering condolences to the man who was killed and explaining that he had been shot in the ear.
“I was shot above my right ear. I heard the whoosh and the gunshot and felt the bullet penetrate my skin so I knew right away something was wrong. I was bleeding profusely and realized what was going on. God Bless America!” he added.
The FBI later identified the shooter as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Bethel Parks, Pennsylvania.
According to Breitbart News, “Next week’s Republican convention is being held two blocks from where President Teddy Roosevelt survived an assassination attempt in 1912. Trump’s defiant fist raised in the face of his killer evokes the manly swagger of the former Republican populist president, who famously said, ‘It takes more force than it takes to kill a moose.'”
