Goldie Hawn Advocates for Children’s Struggles

Goldie Hawn recently expressed her thoughts on parenting, emphasizing that children “have to struggle” instead of being handed everything they desire. During her appearance on the Dan Buettner Podcast on January 21st, the 80-year-old actress discussed her reservations about what she described as the “coddled American heart.” Hawn believes that experiencing struggle is essential for children.

She recounted her own experiences with her daughter, Kate Hudson, reflecting on the tension they sometimes had over spending. “I didn’t always buy her a lot of clothes because it felt like a considerable waste of money,” she said. Hawn noted that Kate would often make her own clothes, indicating a lesson in resourcefulness.

Additionally, Hawn highlighted the significance of children participating in chores and sports. She mentioned that all three of her sons enjoyed hockey, viewing it as a great sport for young ones that teaches valuable lessons about resilience.

In the same conversation, Hawn touched on her long-lasting relationship with Kurt Russell, attributing their success to the “freedom” they share, despite never marrying. “If we got married, it wouldn’t change anything,” she shared. Hawn used a metaphor about birds to explain her beliefs about relationships and independence, saying she wouldn’t fly out if the cage door were open, but would feel the need to “take off all my feathers” if it were shut.

The actress also addressed the importance of sexual compatibility in relationships. Citing her belief that good physical intimacy fosters a sense of togetherness, she remarked that it plays a crucial role in the longevity of relationships.

Hawn and Russell blended their families when they began dating, merging Hawn’s children from previous marriages with Russell’s son from his first marriage. Recently, the couple celebrated daughter Kate’s Academy Award nomination for her role in “Son Son Bleu,” an achievement celebrated by Hawn with heartfelt sentiments on Instagram.

Reflecting on her daughter’s journey, Hawn joyfully remarked, “Oh my baby, my baby, my baby girl! I love you as much as the universe.”
