GOP lawmakers demand Biden admin prosecute ‘pro-terrorist mobs,’ hold schools accountable

“Anti-Israel demonstrators, incited by prominent leftists, have gathered on university campuses in recent days, chanting anti-Semitic slogans and directly threatening Jewish students,” the letter said.

As of Tuesday morning, at least 22 of the top 50 universities ranked by U.S. News & World Report had held active demonstrations against Israel in the past week.

In their letter, the senators noted that Columbia University’s rabbi recently advised Jewish students to leave campus and return to their homes because the university and police cannot ensure the safety of Jews.

Representatives from the Department of Justice and Garland, as well as the Department of Education and Cardona, did not comment to Fox News Digital in time for publication.

The letter asked Garland and Cardona to respond by Wednesday at 5 p.m.

In a post to X on Tuesday morning, Cardona said, “Anti-Semitic hatred on college campuses is unacceptable. I am deeply concerned about what is happening at Columbia University. November 2023, Office of Civil Rights. has launched an investigation into Columbia University related to Title VI.” . ”

“Action must be taken to restore order and protect Jewish students on college campuses,” the Republican letter said. “President Biden issued a statement on Sunday condemning the prevalence of anti-Semitism. In a statement Sunday commemorating the Jewish holiday of Passover, Biden said: “We must speak out against the alarming surge in anti-Semitism in our schools, in our communities, and online. Silence is not enough. He is an accomplice.”

“My administration will continue to speak out, aggressively implement the first-ever national strategy to combat anti-Semitism, and commit the full power of the federal government to protecting the Jewish community,” he added.

But Republicans suggested this would not be enough without action requested by both the Justice Department and the Department of Education.

The White House did not respond to Fox News Digital for comment in time for publication.
